Bandipora, Jan 14 (KNS): Indian Army's 14th Rashtriya Rifles on Saturday organised a media interaction at Sonerwani in northern Kashmir's Bandipora district.
The importance and role of media in a democratic setup was highlighted by describing media as an important pillar of democracy.
Army officials appreciated the role of the media being played for the overall good of the society. They said the constructive criticism by the media ensures to keep checks and balances in the system and ensures accountability.
They also said that the media highlights the people's issues and acts as a bridge between the people and the government and plays a similar role for the defence Forces.
While appreciating their role, Commanding Officer called for mutual understanding and cooperation with regard to the reformation of society by eradicating social evils and fighting fake news menace and propaganda by enemies of the country that is the major challenge faced by all to ensure peace in J&K. Army officials also mentioned that the media has a major role to play to fight these contemporary issues to ensure peace in JK.
During the meeting, various issues having direct bearing on society were also discussed. Media fraternity members also put forth a series of suggestions of public importance besides informing about issues being faced by them while reportage on the ground.
Army assured every possible support to ensure a cordial atmosphere of working and regular interaction between army and media.
The participating media personnel assured their full cooperation with the Army and also appreciated the efforts of the Army in facilitating such interaction meets where participants can express their opinion and discuss their issues(KNS)
