Srinagar, June 16 (KNS): Army today paid tributes to the soldier who was killed in an encounter in Macchil sector in border district of Kupwara.
Signalman Ajay Singh Choudhary was killed in Machhal sector yesterday, foiling an infiltration bid.
Defense spokesman Col N N Joshi in a statement said that when most his age may still be deciding on their career options, he was already into the serious business of safeguarding his motherland. “At a time when most his age would still be grappling with what to do with their lives, he had laid down his, grappling with terrorists who dared to violate his motherland.”
“Signalman Ajay Singh Choudhary, who had attained martyrdom yesterday while foiling an infiltration bid in Machhal Sector of Kupwara but not before eliminating one terrorist, was today paid a befitting tribute by the Army. Homage was paid to the martyred hero in a solemn wreath laying ceremony at Badami Bagh Cantt in Srinagar.”
Signalman Ajay was part of his unit’s Quick Reaction Team which was the first to intercept and engage an infiltrating column of terrorists in the highly inhospitable terrain of Machhal area on 14 Jun 16.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Displaying exceptional gallantry and selflessness, he had continued to engage the terrorists killing one despite being grievously wounded himself. He was evacuated from the encounter site but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later.
Proudly remembered by his comrades for his professionalism and poise, the 24 year old brave heart from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan is survived by his parents, wife Smt Meena Devi and a 10 months old son.
Saluting the brave soldier on his final journey, Lt Gen Satish Dua, the Chinar Corps Commander said that such exemplary acts always served as an inspiration not only to the uniformed community but to the entire Nation.
He further said that his family would continue to remain a part of the service fraternity and that the organisation and indeed, the whole country, stood by them in this hour of grief. (KNS)
