Army organises awareness lecture on coronavirus in Watlab

 Srinagar, Feb 12 (KNS):  Army Camp ParibalTekri, Bandipora  on Wednesday  organised 'lecture on Coronavirus' at Youth Centre Watlab.

In a statement issued to KNS army said, “ the aim of the lecture was to create awareness about the disease, its mode of transmission amongst general public and precautionary measures. Many locals from Watlab and nearby villages attended the lecture and the lecture was conducted by Army Medical Officer. During the lecture they were educated about various signs and symptoms in effected persons and the precautionary measures which have to be undertaken to avoid contamination.”

A coronavirus was first isolated in 1937 from an infectious bronchitis virus in birds that has the ability to seriously devastate poultry stocks. These viruses are responsible for between 15 and 30 percent of common colds. Over the last 70 years, scientists have found that coronaviruses can infect mice, rats, dogs, cats, turkeys, horses, pigs, and cattle. Most recently, authorities identified a coronavirus outbreak in China that has now reached other countries.

“To prevent people from getting infected, the locals and the village elders were advised to ensure the hygiene of their families, living area and the surroundings. Locals appreciated and expressed gratitude towards the Army’s this initiative,” statement added. (KNS)
