Army in collaborates GDC Tangdhar organises Cricket tournament

Srinagar, 03 Oct (KNS): Sports competitions amongst youth increases their mental and physical ability. It also instils qualities like discipline and zeal to perform amongst the youth thereby drawing them to work hard and achieve excellence. Towards this aim a cricket tournament was organised by the Army in which a total of eight teams participated. This tournament started on 19 Sep 2020, the day IPL 2020 got flagged off and lasted till 30 Sep 2020.
The tournament was planned on knock out basis with final match played on 30 Sep 2020 at Chhamkot between Govt Degree College Tangdhar A and Govt Degree College Tangdhar B. The event was graced by Mr Farooq Khan, Spl Advisor to the Governer (J&K), Brigade Commander, Tangdhar Sector. The toss was won by Govt Degree College Tangdhar A and they opted to bat and scored 104 runs in allotted 15 overs. Govt Degree College Tangdhar B went for their turn and fell short by five runs.
All the players performed exceedingly well and gave their best. After the completion of the match prizes were awarded to the player of the tournament, best bowler, best batsman, Runners Up Team (trophy along with individual medals), Winning Team (trophy along with individual medals).

Brigade Commander, Tangdhar Sector appreciated and lauded the efforts put by everyone. He said that sports instil discipline in an individual which in turn makes him a good human being. He also awarded a cash prize to the runner up & the winning team. In the end, the Principal of Govt Degree College Tangdhar, Mr Satwant Singh appreciated the gesture of goodwill and support extended by Army. He said that such events will encourage more sports activities to see the light of the day in Tangdhar. This will channelize the youth in the right direction which in turn will develop a better environment for sustaining peace and development in UT of J&K. The protocols related to COVID-19 were adhered to throughout the tournament.
