Army Holds Outreach, Barakhana for Gujjar, Bakarwals in Bandipora, Ganderbal

Srinagar, May 11 (KNS): The Army on Monday organised an interaction programme and traditional Barakhana for members of the Gujjar and Bakarwal communities in Bandipora and Ganderbal districts to strengthen civil-military coordination and facilitate smooth seasonal migration to upper reaches, officials said.

The programme was organised under the aegis of the Army’s Kilo Force and 3 Sector Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and was attended by members of the nomadic communities preparing for their annual migration to higher mountain pastures.

During the interaction, Company Commanders briefed the participants on security-related procedures and documentation required for movement through transit points and sensitive areas, the officials said.

They said the community members were also sensitised about safety measures and precautionary protocols to be followed while travelling through dense forests and remote mountainous regions.

Army officials urged the nomadic population to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in maintaining peace and stability in the region, the officials added.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The interaction also provided an opportunity for members of the Gujjar and Bakarwal communities to raise issues and concerns related to their seasonal migration and daily challenges faced in remote areas.

The officials said the Army assured all possible assistance and support to the communities and reiterated its commitment towards their welfare and safety.

Highlighting the role of Gujjars and Bakarwals in strengthening the security grid due to their presence in upper forest belts and remote areas, the Army encouraged them to continue extending cooperation to security agencies, they added.

The programme concluded with a traditional Barakhana aimed at promoting goodwill and strengthening ties between the Army and local communities, officials said.(KNS).
