Srinagar, Sep 10 (KNS): Army on Saturday said that in preparation for Eid-ul-Azha, an initiative mooted by noted social worker Dr Drakshan Andrabi to provide succour to the children from orphanages found its savior in Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) who took upon to improve the condition of two major orphanages in Srinagar.
In a statement issued to KNS, defence spokesman said that with the current conditions, children at the orphanages were even bereft of the basic needs of day to day living, let alone having other modes of constructive engagement.
“To obviate these difficulties and as part of the social commitment to improve the learning environment, Chinar Corps ladies spearheaded by Mrs Aradhana Dua, Zonal President AWWA ventured on the mission to improve upon children’s learning experiences and promote their wellbeing through better recreational facilities that would enable them to explore the world. With this backdrop the Chinar Corps presented a LED TV, Tata Sky, Water Dispenser, Sports Gear, School Uniforms and Book racks to the orphanages,” spokesman said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He said that surrounded by scores of children, officials and the elderly at one of the orphanages near Nishat, Aradhana Dua expressed her happiness and was impressed by the cultural programme presented by the children.
She impressed upon the importance of education and extracurricular activities for development of an all round personality. She also greeted everyone in advance on Eid-ul-Azha, simultaneously expressing hope that this holy festival may usher peace and stability in Kashmir Valley.
The Bonhomie and the smiling faces of 140 children during the programme made everyone forget the trying conditions in the valley. Dr Drakshan Andrabi and the Staff of the orphanages expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the Army’s concern towards them, echoing their sentiments Dr Drakshan Andrabi said “Such humanitarian acts are always welcome and will definitely act as a boon for the overall development of children residing at these orphanages”.
