Veracity of various encounters across India needs to be probed

Srinagar, Apr 06 (KNS): All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has demanded that the encounters that have come under cloud over the past so many years in Jammu & Kashmir and outside should be probed thoroughly so that the truth comes out and justice is done to the families of the victims.
Referring to the recent report of Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) about the Pilibhit fake encounter case, APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina in a statement issued to KNS, said that veracity of various encounters that took place in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and other places of the country over the past few decades is under question and they need to be probed in right manner.
“A Special CBI court at Lucknow recently indicted 47 cops for killing 10 innocent Sikh pilgrims in a fake encounter some 25 years ago at Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh. Over the past few decades many such instances have come to fore wherein allegations regarding fake encounters have been leveled against personnel of security agencies operating in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab or any other state of country. As such it would be prudent to hold a probe in such cases so that the real picture comes to the fore,” said Raina.
The APSCC Chairman said that parliament which is highest law making body in the country should sit and deliberate on such issues of important nature.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe said that it would be in tune if a parliamentary committee is formed to probe the encounters that are said to be ‘fishy’ due to one reason or other.
“The killing of 35 Sikhs at Chattisinghpora in South Kashmir on March 20, 2000 has never been probed and time has come to deliver justice to the families of the Sikhs killed there. A time bound enquiry should be ordered in this case so that the perpetrators are taken to task and justice is done. The Machil fake encounter in Kupwara has already cast a shadow on the overall image of security forces operating in the state. Such things can be undone only when a thorough probe is carried out in such incidents,” said Raina.
The APSCC Chairman expressed shock over the reports that some of the security forces officers and officials take the route of fake encounters in order to receive medals, awards and promotions from the central government. He referred to this situation as disturbing and said that the overall picture would be clear only when all the things in put in correct perspective. (KNS)
