Jammu February 02 (KNS): Urging police to curb criminal activities, Apni Party has expressed deep concern over increasing crime rate in Jammu District from the last several months.

Statement issued to KNS reads, “The ATM guard’s killing, shooting incidents at several places, theft cases and drug menace has created panic among the peace loving people of Jammu,” General Secretary Apni Party Vikram Malhotra. 

Malhotra was speaking at a programme in which Congress and BJP leaders joined the Apni Party at Residency Road, Jammu.

He said that Jammu remained peaceful and the criminal activities remained under control. “Police were never helpless in the past. The increasing graph of crime in Jammu has made the citizens scared with police’s inability to take countermeasures. The theft incidents have also increased,” said Malhotra.

He said that “The police were able to arrest two youth responsible for the killing of the ATM guard but the incidents have not stopped. The repeated incidents of theft from different areas of Jammu District show that criminals have no fear of police.”

Vikram Malhotra condemned the firing on a prominent social activist who fights against the exploitation of parents by private schools.

He demanded intervention of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha into the situation so that the accountable can be fixed for maintaining law and order in Jammu.

Provincial President and Ex-Minister Manjit Singh expressed concern over the growing menace of drug menace in Samba, Kathua and Jammu Districts.

“The youth are becoming addicted to the drugs and families have been destroyed. The police should act in a coordinated manner and break the chain of supply in J&K,” said Manjit Singh.

He said that “Drugs are easily available in Jammu City, peripheral areas and parts of Samba and Kathua. We have to engage elderly persons and form committees in every Mohallah to help police and other agencies to curb the menace from spreading further.” Apni Party leader Ajaz Kazmi was also present on the occasion and he said that the police have failed to crack down on the nexus between local intoxicant suppliers/ drug peddlers and their suppliers from Punjab and other states. “The issue is very serious for the youth of Jammu District,” Kazmi said.

Speaking on the occasion, Apni Party leader Gourav Kapoor said that the police have failed to curb the crime and drug addiction in Jammu and the cases of drug peddling have increased in a surprising manner. Apni Party leader Ajaz Kazmi was also present on the occasion.

District President Mahila Congress Party, Jyoti Vaid, Congress General Secretary Sushant Gupta, General Secretary, Congress Party, Parvinder Kaur, Kanta Mehra, Shankey Sudan, Rakhi Mehra, Shakti Bhaita, Radhika Mehra, Neeru Sharma, Kamla Sharma, Keshav Mahajan, Varun Gupta, Tara Katyal, Meenakshi Arora and others.

Speaking on the occasion, District President Mahila Congress Party, Jyoti Vaid, who joined Apni Party said that they were impressed with the public friendly approach of the Apni Party leadership and developmental centric policies.

“The Apni Party has come out in public to represent them when others had left the people of Jammu and Kashmir in confusion after August 5, 2019 changes,” said Congress Party General Secretary Sushant Gupta.  

Meanwhile, BJP’s state member Showkat Bhatti also joined the Apni Party and while speaking on the occasion thanked Vikram Malhotra and Manjit Singh.

Bhatti expressed his faith in the policies and agenda of the Apni Party and said that they were against the divisive police. Therefore, he said, he joined the Apni Party.(KNS)
