Apni Party chief slams Omar led NC govt over water crisis; accuses Power Minister of 'misleading' people

Srinagar, Aug 23 (KNS): Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Sunday accused the National Conference-led administration of "complete failure" in tackling Srinagar's acute water crisis, and demanded that the Power Minister either resign or be sacked for "misleading" the public and making "false promises."

Addressing a crowded gathering in Khanyar, Altaf Bukhari as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said the summer capital was "reduced to begging for water," and blamed the "incompetent and insensitive" bureaucracy for the grim situation that has left thousands of households parched.

"Today, the water shortage in Srinagar is worse than what we used to see in far-flung mountainous areas. People are begging for water in the city of gardens. This is the result of an administration that cannot deliver," Bukhari said.

Taking a blistering swipe at the Power Minister, Altaf Bukhari accused him of "insulting" the people by backtracking on his promise of 200 units of free electricity, and approving only 66 per cent instead.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel"He talks in two languages. He says he will present a report card after five years. I ask him — show us your work in the next 50 days. Or leave the chair," Bukhari said, drawing applause from the crowd.

The Apni Party chief also alleged misconduct, claiming the minister was "throwing caps at people" instead of addressing their grievances. He further accused the administration of practising discrimination, alleging that Kashmiris were being deliberately denied benefits "because they do not pay bribes."

Expressing confidence in his party's youth leadership, Altaf Bukhari said, "When Amir and other young leaders take control of Srinagar, they will not sit in offices. They will be on the streets, standing with the people. They will work, unlike the current lot."

Earlier, Bukhari congratulated the residents of Khanyar and assured them that a new foundation for their welfare had been laid. He reiterated his party's commitment to restoring the "lost glory" of the city. (KNS)
