Srinagar, Aug 30 (KNS): Terming the arrest of their Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and detaining him at Cheshma Shahi Sub Jail as frustration on part of the government, Anjumani Awqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar Tuesday said this was acceptance of defeat of Government of India and its local collaborators in Kashmir.
A statement of Anjumani Awqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar issued here said the Mirwaiz had been placed under house arrest at his Nigeen residence two months back which continued until five days ago when he was arrested and further curbs and restrictions placed on his religious and social activities.
Stressing that this was being done to deliberately create a communication gap between the Mirwaiz and the people, the statement said Kashmir’s religious and social circles, and Kashmir’s civil society had expressed strong resentment against arresting their religious leader.
Anjumani Awqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar also condemned the government for stopping people from offering Friday congregational prayers at Kashmir’s main mosque – Jamia Masjid Srinagar - and other major Masjids, Khanqahs, shrine and Imam Barahs for eight consecutive weeks by imposing curfew, restrictions and curbs and using excessive force, and said this interference in religious duties was unacceptable to the people.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Anjumani Awqaf Jamia Masjid, Srinagar statement said the government was resorting to such extreme forms of oppression believing it would force the people of Kashmir to give up on their basic right of right to self determination but added that these tactics had neither yielded any results for them in the past nor would they bear any fruit in the future.
