Anjuman Auqaf demands release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq ahead of Rajab

Srinagar, Feb 03 (KNS): Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar today once again expressed its deep regret over continuous house detention Mirwaiz Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq since August 2019.

Anjuman in a statement termed it as a sheer interference in religion, freedom of expression and a serious violation of human rights.

“It is a sad chapter in the recent history of Kashmir that the pulpit of Jama Masjid, which is the great place of worship and the centre of spirituality for the Muslims of Kashmir, has been continuously silent for the past three and a half years,” it said.

The Anjuman emphasised that in view of the arrival of Rajab which is the month of great miracle of the ascension of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), the administration should ensure immediate release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq so that he can fulfil his duties towards the people that have been continuing for centuries.

Meanwhile, rich tributes were paid to the founder of Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam Mirwaiz Allama Rasool Shah Sahib (RA) on the occasion of his 114th passing away anniversary.

The Aquaf as well as the worshippers present at the grand mosque paid homage to Mirwaiz Rasool Shah Sahib (RA) for his all-round services, especially in the field of education, to the nation of Kashmir.

Fateha prayers were offered for the elevation of the late Mirwaiz’s rank in Jannah and also for the Haji Ghulam Rasool Hakak of Sokali Pora, Rajouri Kadal; late spouse of late D. Saeed Ahmad Buchh of Dargah Hazratbal; and the spouse of the late Raja Saeed Ahmad Khan who also passed away.
