Anjuman Auqaf concerned over continued detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

Srinagar, Dec 23 (KNS): Expressing deep concern over detention of its chief and Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq for around three and a half years, Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar said he was today again disallowed to lead Friday prayers at the grand mosque.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Auqaf said due to this restriction the pulpit of the Central Jama Masjid continues to be silent, which otherwise used to reverberate with the message of Qaal Allah Wa Qaala Rasool (SAW).

As per the statement Anjumsn termed this behaviour of authorities as highly regrettable and said it is tantamount to hurting people’s sentiments and is a direct interference in religious matters.

It reads Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been kept under house detention for the last 174 consecutive Fridays, due to which he is neither allowed to leave his residence nor is he able to perform his duties towards the public, which is extremely painful and condemnable. (KNS)
