ANC castigates govt for not allowing OP Shah from holding a seminar on Kashmir

Srinagar, July 30, (KNS): Awami National Conference Friday castigated government from barring Chairman ‘Centre for Peace and Progress’ from holding a one-day seminar on Kashmir in Srinagar.

In a statement issued to Kashmir News Service, senior vice president ANC, Muzafar Shah said that stopping a person from holding a seminar that too in a peaceful manner is undemocratic and against the ethos and values of democracy.

He said no democratic country stops free voice but unfortunately in Kashmir things are different where democracy exists only on papers.

The seminar- titled ‘The Way Out’ was scheduled to be held on 1st of August (Sunday) by ‘Centre for Peace and Progress’ Chairman O.P Shah.

Besides civil society members, lawyers and doctors, top political leaders had consented to participate in the seminar.

“Barring a civil society member from holding a closed-door seminar speaks volumes. This defies the logic and makes it amply clear that government is not ready to give space to the people in Kashmir,” Shah said.(KNS)
