Anantnag, Feb 18 (KNS): Residents of Harnag, Khadipora, Kinar Mohalla, Allahipora area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district here blocked vehicular traffic on National Highway on Thursday, demanding safe water supply in their areas.
Men, Women, children and old here blocked the National Highway and are not allowing any vehicle to pass through the way.
Traffic is disrupted from past one hour. Vehicles are lined up for distance of two kilometres. Even long-distance buses and trucks are stranded on the highway.
The women protestors alleged that they are getting unsafe drinking water in their areas from past five years. “We have been forced to take streets as they are getting unsafe water which led to infectious diseases to us.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelWe appeal higher ups to supply drinking water from Bumzuwa filtration plant to our areas,” the protesters said.
Executive Engineer PHE and AEE PHE have reached to spot and are asking people to resume the traffic and their genuine grievances will be redressed soon.
The officials told KNS that the department will try to redress the genuine grievances of protesters soon. “We have already informed higher ups to take necessary steps in this regard but due to the non-availability of funds, they couldn’t fulfilled the same,” he said, adding that the matter will be taken into serious consideration for the welfare of protesting inhabitants.
