Amnesty International report on Kashmir an eye-opener: Shah

‘World must now break its silence, take practical steps in resolving Kashmir’

Srinagar, Feb 23 (KNS): Terming the report released by the Amnesty International in which it highlighted the human rights violations by India in Jammu Kashmir as “eye-opener”, the incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Thursday said the world must now break its silence and take practical steps in this regard.
In a statement issued to KNS, Shah while commenting on the report said the people of Jammu Kashmir have always asserted that India and its collaborators have been playing with their lives and using excessive force against them to suppress their just and genuine struggle of the right to self-determination.
On the use of pellet gun mentioned in the report, Shah said this lethal weapon was deliberately used to create a sense of fear and terror among the people and is continuously used despite the fact that it snatched the vision of hundreds of people mostly teenagers.
Shah termed it “unfortunate” that despite the report released by an impartial body like Amnesty International, the world continues to maintain silence over the issue which emboldens India to unleash further terrorism in Jammu Kashmir.
“The world community must prioritise the demand of right to self-determination of the oppressed people of Jammu Kashmir over the trade relations with India. The United Nations is a party to the Kashmir issue and we welcome the world community’s intervention in resolving this long-pending dispute,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Meanwhile, Shabir Ahmad Shah while expressing grief over the loss of human lives in Kulgam and Mullu, Chitragam said, “On one hand, Indian forces are showering bullets on innocent people and on other, the people’s love and affection towards the brave youth has made it clear that they are not scared of bombs and bullets. This is a befitting reply to the threats by Indian army chief that people of Jammu Kashmir are ready to sacrifice everything for the freedom of their nation.”
Meanwhile, a party spokesperson while strongly condemning the arrest of a Kashmir University student Aaqib Malik has termed it frustration of authorities. “The puppet administration has created an atmosphere of suffocation in university where students are terrorised. Conspiracies are being hatched in university to promote communal politics,” he said.
The spokesperson warned of serious repercussions if the student is not released forthwith.
The spokesperson also expressed concern over the continous arrest of People’s League chief Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori saying the incarcerated octogenarian leader is ailing. He strongly condemned the police attitude against Sopori saying there is lawlessness prevailing in the state. (KNS)
