Intellectuals and writers have an important role to play when the society is passing through such grueling times, said the statement adding “a single word of a writer makes a difference in such a situation". "we urge our writers and intelligentsia to come forward and register their protest through their writings and that certainly would make a difference,” says the statement adding that writers should not stay away on such occasions and if they do so it would mean "that were a dead and soul less society". "Kashmir has rich cultural tradition and has a host of writers who are worth naming and if they remain aloof at this time of agony it would mean that this society cannot take pride in rich cultural and literary heritage".
The AMK has called upon the writers to be conscious of their role and duties and expected them to be in the forefront to condemn the deaths and the violence. (KNS)
