Amit Visits Kathua & Samba to Assess Self-Enumeration Progress & Census 2027 Preparedness

 Samba, May 22 (KNS) : Amit Sharma, IAS, Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director of Census Operations & Citizen Registration (DCO/DCR), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, today visited the twin districts of Kathua and Samba to review the progress of Self-Enumeration and overall preparations for Census 2027. He met with the Principal Census Officers-cum-Deputy Commissioners of Kathua and Samba, Rajesh Sharma, JKAS, and Ayushi Sudan, IAS, respectively.

 
CPCO Amit Sharma’s visits focused on assessing the progress of Self-Enumeration and various preparatory activities underway for Census 2027 in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, where the highway districts of Kathua and Samba hold strategic importance.
 
Both Principal Census Officers-cum-Deputy Commissioners of Kathua and Samba shared district-wise preparedness relating to Self-Enumeration, House Listing Block (HLB) demarcation and geo-tagging, training of Enumerators and Supervisors, media and publicity activities, mapping and jurisdictional updates, distribution of Census materials, and financial management of Census-related activities with CPCO Amit Sharma. These details were also counter-confirmed by the District Prabharis of the Census Directorate.
 
During the review interactions, Amit Sharma conducted a comprehensive assessment of the ongoing Self-Enumeration exercise and appreciated the encouraging public participation being witnessed across both districts. He emphasized the importance of maintaining continuous awareness generation activities, thematic publicity campaigns, and public facilitation mechanisms to ensure maximum citizen participation in the ongoing digital Census exercise.
 
The progress of HLB demarcation and geo-tagging activities was also reviewed in detail, during which it was informed that all identified House Listing Blocks in Kathua and Samba districts have been fully demarcated and geo-tagged as part of the preparatory activities for Census 2027. Amit Sharma appreciated the timely completion of these important groundwork activities and stressed the regular updating and verification of jurisdictional changes on the HLBC portal.
 
Amit Sharma also reviewed the status of training programs being conducted for Enumerators and Supervisors across both districts.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIt was informed that the scheduled training activities have been completed successfully, and field-level Census functionaries have been adequately oriented regarding digital Census applications, operational protocols, and field procedures for the smooth conduct of Census operations.
 
Detailed discussions were also held regarding media outreach and publicity campaigns being undertaken in connection with Self-Enumeration, including the participation of public representatives and dignitaries in the Self-Enumeration exercise, district-level awareness drives, and thematic publicity activities. Amit Sharma stressed continued public engagement through coordinated IEC and digital outreach initiatives.
 
The status of receipt and distribution of Census kit items was also reviewed during the meeting. Shri Amit Sharma directed that proper charge-wise records regarding the receipt, dispatch, and disbursement of materials to Enumerators and Supervisors should be maintained systematically for smooth operational management during field activities.
 
Discussions were also held regarding the updating of village and urban jurisdiction records, incorporation of jurisdictional changes, and submission of pending boundary maps for integration on the HLBC portal. Necessary directions were issued for the timely verification and updating of village and town master databases in coordination with district authorities.
 
CPCO J&K and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, further reviewed the status of release and utilization of Census-related funds and emphasized the maintenance of proper expenditure records, utilization certificates, and adherence to prescribed financial procedures for the smooth implementation of Census activities at district and charge levels.
 
Reiterating the importance of Census 2027 as India’s first fully digital and paperless Census exercise, CPCO Amit Sharma directed all concerned officers to maintain close coordination and ensure the timely completion of all preparatory activities for smooth, transparent, and comprehensive Census operations across the Union Territory. He added that he will be randomly visiting districts of both Union Territories to assess the preparedness of all DCs/PCOs. (KNS)
