Srinagar, Oct 12 (KNS): Minor clashes erupted in some parts of the valley following the shutdown call by traders and Hurriyat groups against the petrol-bomb attack by a mob on three Kashmiri truckers in Udhampur district of Jammu province on Friday.
In the morning minor clashes broke out between protesters and police in Kakapora town in Pulwama district, and at Narbal in the city outskirts. However the protesters dispersed after mild cane charge by police, who have been deployed across the region.
Public transport is off the roads, with some private cabs plying. Shops, schools and other business units were shut in major towns of the Valley.
Three Kashmiri drivers from Bijbehara area, sleeping in their vehicle, were burnt after a mob, armed with petrol bombs, attacked them at Udhampur on the Srinagar–Jammu Highway.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe injured drivers have been flown to Delhi for treatment.
Following the attack two men were arrested by the police.
The shutdown has been called by Kashmiri trade bodies and has the support of Hurriyat groups, Geelani, Mirwaiz and Yasin Malik.
Tension has gripped the state over the Dogra-era cow slaughter law. Jammu observed a complete strike against a beef party hosted by Independent legislator, Er Rashid, in Srinagar which followed by the assault on the three drivers in Udhampur.
The shutdown and the attack on drivers have left the six-month old PDP-BJP government in tight spot, which is grappling with controversies after taking over early this year. (KNS)
