Srinagar, Sep 29 (KNS): Large number of villagers in Karna, Uri, Keren sector and adjacent areas in frontier district Kupwara has moved to safer places, after Army claimed to have carried surgical strikes across the border.
Sources said that the villagers were advised by the authorities to move to safer places.
Schools in these villages were ordered closed following the escalation of tension along the Line of Control (LOC) in Jammu and Kashmir, sources added.
Informed sources and eye witnesses told KNS that armored fighting vehicles were also moved to border areas, to combat any threat.
Panic griped Gurez valley - a border tehsil in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district - on Thursday after news about “surgical strikes” carried out by India across Line of Control in Pakistan-administered Kashmir reached there.

Eye witnesses said that people were seen running towards safer places fearing “artillery shelling” in the area as the residential areas are located close to the Line of Control.
India caused "significant casualties" on militants and those who support them during surgical strikes across the India-Pakistan border late on Wednesday, the Indian Army has said, this morning.
However, Pakistan dismissed a claim made by Indian army regarding surgical attacks across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-administered Kashmir but accused India of violating ceasefire.
Pertinently, there were reports that the Punjab government, following directions from the union home ministry, could order evacuation of villages in a 10-km area along the border with Pakistan in Punjab. (KNS)
