Amid cold wave, PDD records slight rise in power consumption by consumers in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 11 (KNS) The power development department (PDD) has reported a slight increase in the power consumption by its consumers after temperature has gone down in the Kashmir Valley after upper reaches received fresh snowfall.

Pertinently, upper reaches of Kashmir on Monday received fresh snowfall while plains received rainfall, which led to a dip in the mercury.

An official of PDD told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the department has reported a slight increase in the power consumption after temperature has gone done.

“Usually in summer as per demand we supply 1250-1350 MWs to entire Kashmir, but since yesterday evening the demand has increased and reached to around 1400MWs, which is highest in the past few months,” he said.

He said that they are also going for shutdown due to branch cutting at several places in Kashmir to ensure uninterrupted power supply this winter.

“Whenever we see dip in temperature, the load in the system increases. As such, all the consumers are humbly requested to use electricity judiciously and restrain from using heating gadgets to avoid unscheduled cuts,” the official appealed. (KNS)
