Srinagar, Oct 20 (KNS): Amid clashes between protesters and security forces, complete shutdown was observed in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district for the second consecutive dayTuesday over the death of Zahid Rasool Bhat.
According to KNS correspondent from south Kashmir, protesters clashed with security forces in Khanabal, Bijbehara, Sangam, Mattan chowk areas of the district.
Reports said that agitated youth pelted stones towards security forces and shouted pro-freedom and anti-government slogans over the death of Zahid, 18, who died after being set ablaze by a violent mob in Udhampur district of Jammu province on October 9, when their truck was parked on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway.
Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in the district to thwart protests. And they lobbed teargas and pepper gas canisters towards the protesting youth to disperse them
Protests also erupted in Kulgam in Khedwani area where youth pelted stones and shouted pro-freedom slogans.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Business units, shops and government departments have been shut, while traffic on Highway was also off the roads.
Zahid Rasool Bhat, a trucker, succumbed to severe burnt injuries in Safderjung hospital in New Delhi on Sunday. While his other associate Showkat Ahmad is fighting for his life in the hospital.
Barring Anantnag district, no shutdown was observed in rest of the valley. Traffic, educational institutes and business units resumed their activity normally in rest of the valley.
Rail services, which were suspended on Monday, resumed on Tuesday. (KNS)
