Amarnath Cloudburst: Farooq Abdullah terms it unfortunate, demands inquiry

Srinagar, July 09(KNS): Terming the Amarnath cloudburst incident in which at least 15 people died and several others were injured as unfortunate, National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said that an inquiry into the matter is necessary and government needs to explain what happened. 


Talking to reporters here, he said that he thinks there should be an inquiry as to why base camp was set up at such a place, as this is for the first time that a base camp has been set up there, where the cloudburst hit yesterday. 

“We regret the loss of lives caused by the incident and I hope that compensation would be provided to the families of the deceased by the government,” he said. 

He also termed the incident as in as unfortunate and questioned why tents were put at a risky place, while asserting that a probe is necessary into the matter. (KNS)
