Haris Jeelani imparted hands-on training to students

Srinagar March 17:(KNS) To acquaint the students with the fundamentals of dynamic digital media, Department of Media Studies, Amar Singh College (ASC) Srinagar organized a one-day workshop on multimedia journalism here Friday.

Haris Jeelani Toogo, multimedia journalist currently working with The Mojo Story, a reputed digital media organization of the country, was resource person for the workshop attended by the students of the Department. In the technical sessions of the workshop, he evaluated the video and photography assignments of the students providing them expert feedback. The resource person while imparting hands-on training elaborated the essential aspects of video and photography techniques including composition, sound designing, video editing and production.  
 
Highlighting the importance of the know-how of digital skills for today’s media person, Toogo impressed upon the trainee journalists to focus on honing technical skills alongside writing and communication skills.
 
Earlier in his inaugural address, Principal of the college Prof. Bashir Ahmad Rather said the digital media is fast evolving and it is imperative upon the students to acquaint them with the latest media technology. “The college is committed to provide students every opportunity to improve on their technical and soft skills,” he maintained.
 
Among the college faculty present at the inaugural include Dr Gazala Gayas, HoD English and Dr Helal Ahmad Lone, Associate Professor, Department of Botany.
 
The workshop was conducted by Parvaiz Lone, HoD Media Studies and technical assistance was provided by Rayees Muhstaq, Lab Bearer of the Department.
Pertinently, ASC established the Department of Media Studies in 2021 and introduced Media Studies as a core paper in combination with Political Science and Sociology. It is the second college of the Cluster University Srinagar to introduce Media Studies as a subject.(KNS)
