Altaf Thakur Tears Into NC Over ‘Anti-India’ School Book, Questions Omar Abdullah’s Silence

Srinagar, July 5 (KNS) : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson on Sunday launched a blistering attack on the National Conference government over the alleged inclusion of “anti-India and separatist” content in a school book, demanding the immediate sacking of Education Minister and asking Chief Minister to break his silence on the issue.

In a strongly worded statement, Thakur said the controversial book glorifies terrorists and separatists, portrays Kashmir as “Indian occupied Kashmir,” and attempts to plant seeds of separatism in the minds of young students.

“This is not education — this is ideological poisoning. The NC government is trying to infiltrate classrooms with the same dangerous narrative that pushed Kashmir into decades of bloodshed and destruction,” Thakur said.
He termed the contents of the book a “deliberate and calculated attempt” to distort history and undermine India’s sovereignty.

“Referring to Kashmir as ‘Indian occupied Kashmir’ is nothing short of sedition. It is shameful that such anti-national language has been allowed inside educational material under the watch of the Education Department. This exposes the real mindset of the National Conference leadership,” he said.
Thakur alleged that the ruling dispensation was attempting to revive separatist sentiment among the younger generation by subtly glorifying terrorism and normalising extremist narratives.
“For years, the people of Jammu and Kashmir suffered because of terrorism sponsored by separatist ideology. Thousands lost their lives, families were destroyed, and an entire generation suffered trauma. Now, instead of strengthening nationalist values, the NC government is trying to romanticise the very ideology that devastated Kashmir,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The BJP spokesperson said the controversy was not a mere administrative lapse but a “serious conspiracy” to manipulate young minds through the education system.
“Schools are meant to shape responsible citizens, not manufacture sympathisers of separatism. The Education Department under Sakeena Itoo has failed miserably and she must be sacked immediately,” he said.

Taking direct aim at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Thakur said his silence on the matter was “deeply suspicious and politically revealing.”

“Omar Abdullah cannot escape accountability by remaining silent. His silence is being interpreted as silent approval. The people want to know whether he endorses this anti-India narrative or whether he has lost control over his own government,” he said.

Thakur further demanded a time-bound high-level probe into the approval and circulation of the book and sought strict action against every official involved in clearing the content.
“Those trying to radicalise children through textbooks are enemies of peace and progress. The nation will never tolerate attempts to glorify terrorism or distort the identity of Jammu and Kashmir as an integral part of India,” he added.

He said the BJP would continue to expose what he termed as “anti-national attempts” aimed at destabilising peace in the Union Territory.

“The sacrifices of security forces, civilians and patriotic Kashmiris cannot be insulted by allowing separatist propaganda to enter classrooms. Every nationalist voice in Jammu and Kashmir must rise against this dangerous conspiracy,” Thakur said. (KNS)
