Srinagar, Dec 31 (KNS): Minister for Public Works, Floriculture and Gardens & Parks Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today visited the fire sufferers of Azad Basti Natipora whose houses were gutted in a devastating fire incident yesterday.
Accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Lone, IAS and other officers of the Public Works department, Bukhari announced Rs 20, 5000/- from his own pocket among families who have been affected by the fire incident.
While interacting with the fire-sufferers Mr. Bukhari assured them of all possible assistance and exhorted the people not to construct the houses wall to wall and also not to keep the combustible material in abundance in the houses which some time proves adding fuel to the fire.
The Minister for Public Works asked his personal staff to shift the fire hit families to a nearby shelter till they start reconstruction of their gutted houses. Bukhari said that he was deeply pained over the incident as a number of poor families had gone homeless.
He assured the fire victims of adequate relief as per the relief manual, besides other things of daily use. Mr. Bukhari said that the government has already instructed the district administration to provide necessary help to the fire victims at the earliest as an interim measure.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The administration has also been directed to prepare a comprehensive report about the damages/losses so that adequate compensation can be given to these fire victims, he added.
Bukhari asked the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to disburse ex-gratia relief of Rs. 101000/- per gutted structure within a week besides the relief of utensils and blankets already provided by the district administration.
The Public Works Minister also directed the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to issue timber among the fire sufferers for the reconstruction of their houses. The Deputy Commissioner was also directed to provide 50 Kilograms of rice per affected family out of Red Cross.
On this occasion, Bukhari appreciated the role of fire and emergency services, police and the local youth who saved property and lives of the people and also contained spreading fire in time due to which other houses were saved.
Besides other officers additional deputy commissioner Srinagar Nazir Ahmad Baba also accompanied the Honb’le Minister. (KNS)
