Instructing early de-silting of drains chocked by the last year flood in Rajbagh and Jawahar Nagar areas of Amrakadal constituency, the Minister for R&B, Gardens, Parks and Floriculture, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has asked the authorities of SMC, UEED, Irrigation and flood control departments to take necessary measures and ensure that job is completed in a time bound manner. He announced Rs 1.50 crore for the purpose and asked concerned officers to start work immediately.
This was stated by the Minister, while inspecting restoration work of Joggers Park Rajbagh, which was damaged in last year flood. He asked the officers of GP&F department to expedite the restoration work and ensure that park is ready by September 20th. He said the entry into park will be allowed on tickets as well as on entry passes to be issued to the locals living near the park. He said the amount so charged will be used for further beautification and the maintenance of the park.
Interacting with the locals, the Minister assured them that restoration and repairs of drains in flood hit areas has remained priority of present dispensation. He said damaged drains not only create inconvenience to the people but also damage the roads especially the macadamized ones. He said construction of drains has been made mandatory before macadamizing roads as water leaking from drains is main cause of damage to roads.
Responding to the demands of the people of the area, the Minister said lavatory and drinking water facilities will be made available in the park. He asked concerned officers to get fountain and lighting system in the park functional. Seeking cooperation from the people, the Minister asked them to remove the unused material dumped on the roads to enable the department to start work early.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“Government is creating facilities for the people” said the Minister and asked people to extend full support to the executive agencies in taking forward the development plans started in their area.
Later the Minister chaired a meeting of the officers and the public representatives of the area. The Minister issued on the spot instructions in certain cases. He identified Chanpora dispensary and Barzulla maternity centre for upgradation as model hospitals in accordance with the plan of the Government under which two health centers are being upgraded to modern hospitals in every constituency with all facilities. He asked CMO to take measures for upgradation of the health centers in the area.
While inspecting Gym Centre established near the park, the Minister was informed that after spending of Rs. 11.76 crore the work on the project was stopped. He asked DG Youth Services and Sports to look into the matter and get the work restarted on the project so that funds of Rs 21 crore earmarked for the project are utilized for its completion.
Syed Altaf asked the authorities of SMC to double the allocation of funds approved for the constituency in view of the damage caused to basic facilities including drainage and roads. He was informed that Rs. 10 lakh have been earmarked for development of every constituency by the SMC during current works plan.
Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, DG Youth Services and Sports, Chief Engineer, R&B, Commissioner, SMC, SE, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Departments and the officers from Tourism, Floriculture, Revenue accompanied the Minister. (KNS)
