Srinagar, Oct 24 (KNS): Mainstream political parties’ signatory to ‘People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration” on Saturday held a crucial meeting of the group at PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s Fairview Gupkar residence wherein the alliance was given a formal structure as participants appointed senior politician Dr Farooq Abdullah as its president.
According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the meeting deliberated upon constitutional battle for restoring pre-August 5, 2019 position of J&K. “During meeting the participants stressed upon the consensus on joint strategy for bringing back the rights taken away by New Delhi on August 5 last year”, sources told KNS.
They said all participants of the meeting put forth their valuable and concrete suggestion for the vision document of the alliance, besides discussing the ongoing political situation across J&K.
Soon after the meeting ended, the leaders including Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Sajad Gani Lone, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Muzaffar Shah, Javed Mustafa Mir, Hasnain Masoodi and others spoke to media.
President of the Alliance Dr Farooq while talking to media said, “The Alliance is not an anti-national Jamaat (party). Our aim is to ensure that the rights of people of J&K and Ladakh are restored”.
He added that there is a propaganda being carried out that the group has formed by anti-national elements. “The group is not anti-national, but anti-BJP”, Dr Farooq said.
He further added that BJP has tried to divide people and are making attempts to break the federal structure of the country, but it won’t succeed. “Ours fight is not religious but related to our identity”, he said.
Talking to media persons, Sajad Lone who has been appointed as spokesperson of the group, announced that Dr Farooq Abdullah has been appointed as president of the group while Mehbooba Mufti will be its vice-president. He added that Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has been appointed as convener of PAGD while Hasnian Masoodi will discharge his duties as its coordinator.
Lone further informed that during the meeting, it was decided that flag of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State will be the symbol of the group.
He continued that the next meeting of the group will be held in Jammu within two weeks and added the group has decided to come up with a document on lies being spread against people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The white paper will be the tribute to the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, Lone said adding the group is going to hold a convention on November 17. (KNS)
