Srinagar, Apr 03 (KNS): All Jammu and Kashmir Students Union has expressed grave concern over the continual closure of educational institutions by the government after incidents of killings in the conflict-hit Kashmir valley.
AJKSU said that since the reopening of schools and colleges after the three-month long winter break the government has closed down schools frequently fearing student protests. It said that educational institutes were closed after four civilians were killed in Shopian last month and this month after the Shopian bloodbath on Sunday.
“It has become a norm for the government to close schools after killing of civilians or militants. Instead of closing down schools which government finds a short term measure to curb protests and enforce so-called peace, the PDP-BJP government must put its heads together to resolve the decades long Kashmir dispute,” Mudasir Dar, general secretary AJKSU said.
Dar said that Kashmiris cannot afford to deprive their children of education, and at the same time bear the state oppression.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAJKSU condemned the use of force against the students in Kashmir University who were offering abenstia funeral prayers for the slain youth in Shopian.
The student body said that allowing police force to enter in educational institutes is undemocratic and speaks of authoritarian state.
“Using force on students inside educational institutions and not allowing students to democratically vent their feelings and anger against the state oppression pushes the youth to gun. Educated youth now feel gun is the only solution to Kashmir dispute as the state has curbed all non-violent ways to provide political space to students.”
Noted student activist Tajamul Imran wrote on his facebook account. Imran asked that when educational institutions are not closed down in warn-torn countries of Syria and Afghanistan, why they been made a casualty by the state government here in Kashmir. (KNS)
