Srinagar, Mar 5 (KNS): The Awami Itihaad Party on Thursday urged the Centre to facilitate the safe return of Kashmiri students stranded in Iran, calling for immediate arrangements to move them to countries with operational airspace.
In a statement, the party said nearly 1,200 students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in Iran were awaiting evacuation amid the prevailing uncertainty in the region.
AIP chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said families in Kashmir were anxious about the safety of their children and appealed to the Government of India to take swift steps to ensure their return.
He suggested that authorities should coordinate with diplomatic channels to facilitate the students’ transit from Iran to neighbouring countries where airspace remains open, enabling their onward travel to India.
The spokesperson also called for close coordination with Indian missions and local administrations to establish reliable transit corridors so that evacuation or commercial flights can be arranged from alternative locations.
In addition to students, the party urged the government to make similar arrangements for Kashmiri pilgrims, traders and other civilians currently in Iran who may be facing communication and travel constraints.
The AIP said the safety and welfare of all Kashmiris in the affected region should remain a priority and sought a comprehensive strategy to bring them back at the earliest.
There was no immediate response from the authorities to the party’s demand.(KNS).
