AIKS Urges Centre for Kashmiri Academy and Museum

New Delhi, Aug 19 (KNS): A delegation of All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS), led by its President Ravinder Pandita, on Tuesday met Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi and pressed for the establishment of a Kashmiri Academy in the national capital region.

The proposed academy, on the pattern of Urdu, Sindhi and Punjabi academies, would be managed by AIKS in coordination with the state government to promote Kashmiri language, literature and script. Pandita, who also heads the Save Sharda Committee Kashmir, further requested the minister’s support for organizing a two-day “Sharda Festival” in Delhi this October, with plans to extend it to other parts of the country.

The minister assured the delegation that their demands would be examined. The team included AIKS General Secretary Sunil Koul, Kusum Shishoo, entrepreneur Rakesh Thussu and activist Mahaveer Thussu.(KNS)
