Seeks a comprehensive rehabilitation policy for affected population in case of eviction

Srinagar February 14 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial Vice President kashmir and In Charge Lal chowk Constituency Ahsan Pardesi on Tuesday voiced against the notice  issued by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to remove encroachments in Doodh Ganga within a week.

Expressing concern over the aggrieved residents, Pardesi said that they have been living along the waterway for decades. "The Shahi Farman issued by the unrelated bureaucracy is blind to the plight of residents putting up along the waterway for decades now. Where are these people supposed to go? Majority of the population under the purview of this farman live by hand to mouth. Such a drive will deepen the despair of poor. Therefore, govt should give up intimidating people and come up with a well thought out rehabilitation policy first. Buldozer should be the last resort,"he said.

No one is against the conservation measures but their is a great need to balance it with the welfare of people, he said. "Govt should come up with a framework to protect the livelihood, and other complex needs of people. The recovery plan of the Doodh ganga should not disturb the day to day lives of our people. The diktat should be rolled back forthwith," he added.(KNS)
