Srinagar, Feb 25 (KNS): Dozens of Hurriyat (G) leaders on Thursday were either placed under house arrest or were detained to prevent their participation in their proposed funeral prayers in absentia for the three slain militants who were killed in 50-hour long gunfight on Monday afternoon in Sampora area of Pampore.
Hurriyat (G) leader informed KNS that the police on this morning detained scores of amalgam leaders while several leaders were placed under house arrest to stop their participation in the proposed absentia funeral prayers for three slain militants.
“Besides the continuous house imprisonment of APHC Secretary General Shabir Ahmad Shah and Provincial President Nayeem Ahmad Khan, the police also placed Personal Secretary to Hurriyat Chairman Peer Saifullah, Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Mohammad Ashraf Laya under house arrest and dozens of other leaders and activists have been detained or are being searched by the police,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Hurriyat (G) in a statement on Wednesday appealed people to assemble at Pampore today for the funeral prayers in absentia for three militants.
Calling it a “religious obligation”, a spokesperson of the amalgam has said that the prayers will be held after the Zuhr (afternoon) prayers at Pampore. (KNS)
