AGuH, LeT militants involved in killing of Khanmoh Sarpanch killed in Tral: IGP Kashmir

Says night patrolling to be intensified in villages to prevent soft target killings

Srinagar, Apr 06 (KNS): Inspector general of police Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar on Wednesday said that militants who were involved in the killing of a Sarpanch at Khanmoh area were killed in Tral gunfight today.

Talking to media persons, he said that two local militants Umer Teli and Safat Muzaffar Sofi belonging to LeT and AGuH outfits respectively were killed in Tral gunfight today morning. "They were involved in the killing of Sarpanch Sameer Ahmad at Khanmoh. Both of them were operating from Srinagar and were involved in several crimes including grenade throwing and many other crimes in the city, however, they had fled to Tral.

"Since we were tracking them and as soon as we got input about their presence in Tral, police raided the house and during raid, they fired indiscriminately from there, as a result of which forces had to retaliate, triggering an encounter. Both of them were neutralized later," he said.

Replying to query, he said that the militants who were involved in attack on non-local labourers in Pulwama district have been identified and they will be neutralized soon. "We have also got lead in Shopian Kashmiri Pandit's attack and we are working on more leads to neutralize them as well," IGP said.

He also said that said that foreign militants put local militants at the forefront and that is what they saw in Shopian encounter when a local millitant was killed and foreign millitant fled from the spot.

On being asked about increase in attacks on soft targets in the Valley, IGP said that police and security forces will intensify night patrolling in remote villages to prevent millitant attacks on soft targets.

He said that since December last year 66 militants including top militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad and LeT have been killed and there is significant drop in active militants' graph. "Three militants have been killed in this month till now, while police and security forces are working either to arrest or neutralize militants," he said. (KNS)
