Aga Syed Hassan, Ex-Chief Justice urge Ulemas to spread message against drug abuse during Muharram

 Srinagar, July 19 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian round table on drug abuse in Kashmir where Ulemas from different Masjids of Mandi spread the message against drug abuse in the society.

Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas welcomed Aga Hassan, former Chied Justice Ali Muhammad Magray, Ulemas, Zakreen, guests, faculty and students of Jamia Babul Ilem and threw light on the importance of such seminar.

Aga Hassan while speaking said every day there are at least one or two reports of drug peddlers being caught with drugs and arrested in our state. "Really, it is a matter of great concern for all of us. Some serious steps must be initiated to stop the spread of the drug menace before it is too late."

He highlighted the significance of mobilizing the masses on this burning issue during various preoogrammes including Muharram.

He said lack of awareness regarding the consequences of drug addiction and how it has an adverse effect on a person's psychological and physical health, relations and life.
Besides, education curriculum should include chapters on drug addiction, its impact and also on de-addiction,

Formed Chief Jusitce Ali Muhammad Magray said people need to be made aware through campaigns and various other actions about the ill effects of the drug menace in the society. "The drug abuse and other social evils is taking toll on the youths," he said.

He said parents can not escape from their responsibilities. And in this age of information technology, the role of parents has increased further especially in keeping track of their wards.

Journalist Safina Nabi appraised the attendees how drug abuse have penetrated in society and said society is facing a huge challenge of social evils like, drug abuse, cases of suicides and other social evils. She said the need of the hour is to put collective effort in ending such evil practices from society.

On the occasion, several other speakers spoke and stressed upon the timely intervention of civil society members, NGO'S and heads of religious organisations to accelerate their efforts in reforming the society. (KNS)
