‘Govt stifling right to freedom of speech’

Srinagar, July 25 (KNS): Condemning authorities for foil Islamabad Chalo call, senior Hurriyat leader and Anjuman Shari Shian president Aga Syed Hasan Almosvi Alsafvi Monday said that detention and houses arrest of separatist leadership depicts the frustration of people who are at the helm of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued to KNS, Aga Syed Hasan said that such tactics from the government are not going to work in the long run and ultimately it will be the people who will rule the roost and will identify the elements who resort to atrocious policies to appease New Delhi.
“We condemn the house arrest and detention of separatist leadership. In 16 days government forces have murdered over 50 innocent civilians and injured more than 3000 of them,” he said.
Aga Syed Hasan said by using suppressive measures, government is stifling the right to freedom of expression of Kashmiris. He said that

He said disallowing the Islamabad March was another such instance of strong-arm tactics of the government.
Suggesting that international human rights bodies had not done enough in stopping the ongoing human rights violations in Kashmir, Aga Syed Hasan said their failure to raise a strong voice against the imposition of draconian black laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Disturbed Areas Act (DAA) and Public Safety Act (PSA) in Kashmir emboldened the Indian authorities to commit more human rights violations in Kashmir without any accountability.
Explaining that the Kashmir conflict had an adverse impact on every sphere of life in Kashmir, he said conflict had not only impacted the physical health of Kashmiris but also their psychological health and children were the worst hit among them. (KNS)
