Auqaf urges admin to release Mirwaiz Umar Farooq before Eid

Srinagar, June 24 (KNS): Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar said that after a gap of two weeks Friday congregation prayers were allowed at the historic Jama Masjid today.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS) it also urged the administration to refrain from closing Jama Masjid under one pretext or the other in future so that the people who come to this place of worship may not face inconvenience.

Anjuman said that it along with the faithful, continues to express deep disappointment over 3 year long house detention of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq whose absence is deeply hurting the people.

“The pulpit and mihrab of Jama Masjid, which used to reverberate with Qaal Allah Wa Qaala Rasool (SAW), continues to remain silent because of Miwaiz’s absence,” it reads.

The Auqaf has urged the authorities to ensure immediate and unconditional release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in view of Eid-ul-Adha which comprises the important tenets of Islam as Hajj, Qurbani and the arrival of holy and blessed ten days of Dhul Hijja so that he can fulfill his responsibility as Mirwaiz.
