Jammu, Jan 17 (KNS): Advocate Deepika Singh Rajawat, who represented the Kathua gangrape victim in 2018 Tuesday resigned from the basic membership of congress party over the participation of former minister Lal Singh in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Supreme Court advocate and Congress leader Deepika Singh Rajawat in a tweet said that "In view of Singh's proposal of joining bharat jodo and INC Jammu Kashmir allowing the same, I am left with no other option but to resign from from the Congress party. She said that Lal Singh was responsible in sabotaging the Kathua rape case in 2018 by brazenly defending rapists.
Lal Singh divided the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir to protect the rapists and bharat jodo is ideologically opposite. "On ideological grounds, I cannot share the party platform with such a person," she said .
"I was giving my best to the party besides i was highlighting the basic issues as a worker but what forces me to resign from the party was Lal Singh's joining Bahrat Jodo Yatra," she told the Kashmir News Service (KNS). "It's the same Lal Singh who is responsible in sabotaging the Kathua rape case in 2018 by brazenly defending rapists," she said, adding that even he was doing poltics on the rape victim's death.
She also said that her ideological stand is not matching with the party that will allow these people in the party.
"I can't share my party platform with a person who has background of creating polarisation and division, besides abusing Tranga and playing poltics on rape of and murder case of eight year old girl," she said. "I'm out from the Congress now but only on ideological grounds," the advocate said.
About futher line of action, she said that she's a worker for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and she will work for them. "I can always be a independent now matter how much difficult it is," she added.
Notably, the eight-year-old nomadic Muslim girl in Rasana village of Kathua was kidnapped and raped in captivity after having been kept sedated for four days before she was bludgeoned to death in 2018.(KNS)
