Karnah, Aug 14 (KNS): Residents of Bhatpora village, Ward 7 in Karnah tehsil of Kupwara district, are facing an acute shortage of drinking water for the last six days, with taps running dry and authorities yet to respond to their grievances, locals said on Friday.
The water supply to the village suddenly snapped nearly a week ago, forcing the residents, including women and children, to walk long distances to fetch potable water from nearby sources, they said.
"The situation has become unbearable. We have been repeatedly approaching the administration, but no action has been taken so far," said Amjid Shakoor, a local resident.
Another villager, Mushtaq Ahmad, said the crisis stood in sharp contrast to the government's claims of providing clean tap water to every household under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

"Our area and the adjoining localities are suffering due to this scarcity, even as the government asserts that every household is getting clean drinking water," Ahmad said.
Multiple attempts to contact the Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, Kupwara, for an official response did not yield any result.
The villagers have urged the district administration to intervene and restore the water supply on a priority basis to mitigate their hardship. (KNS)
