ACB traps, arrests sarpanch and VLW for accepting bribe in Baramulla village

Baramulla, Dec 19 (KNS): Anti corruption bureau on Sunday claimed to have trapped and arrested a sarpanch and a village level worker while taking bribe in Zainpora area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. 

According to a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), anti corruption bureau received a complaint, wherein it was alleged that Sarpanch Nisar Ahmad Sheikh of Halqa Zainpora and village level worker (VLW) Farooq Joo of Block Development office Norkhah Baramulla were demanding bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant for releasing labour payments. 

“On receipt of the complaint a discreet verification was conducted by the ACB and on the basis of findings of the Enquiry Officer prima facie offences u/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) and Sec 120-B IPC were made out against the alleged accused sarpanch VLW,” reads the statement. 

It reads that accordingly, the case was registered u/s 7 of the PC Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) and section 120-B IPC.

“During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted. The trap team laid a successful trap and caught Sarpanch redhanded while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. He was arrested on the spot by ACB team. He said that accused VLW was also arrested,” it reads. 

It reads that searches were also conducted at the premises of the accused, while further investigation into the case is going on. (KNS)
