Abdul Haq reviews developmental works in Gurez

Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq, today asked the executing agencies of various projects to construct buildings as per requirement, not as per the wishes of contractors.
He said he has observed that if there is requirement of 10 rooms for any purpose, executing agencies construct 20 rooms with the result it delays completion of the project. “Do works which are contract specific. Let’s consolidate things and work for betterment of the State,” he said.
Abdul Haq was talking to district officers while reviewing development works of current fiscal in Gurez valley-150 kilometers from Srinagar.
The Minister further asked the officers not to restrict works. “If any project has been approved or any decision taken, the officers should follow the process and get it implemented instead just leaving it on paper,” he said and added “It is duty of an officer to get projects approved and implemented,”.
As Gurez remains cut off from rest of the valley for 6 months owing to heavy snowfall, the Minister directed local officers to restrict their movement out of the valley during working summer season to attend frequent district meetings. “Be stationed in your own place of posting during the work season. Higher officials can communicate any important direction or decision to the officers concerned over the telephone,” he said.
