Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq Tuesday visited exhibition ground Kashmir Haat to review the arrangements being made for the 12-day long “SARAS Mela” starting September 10th 2015.
He inspected the arrangements being made for the inaugural ceremony and also visited the stalls. The Minister gave on-spot directions to the Roads & Buildings Department, Srinagar Municipal Committee and Department of Handicrafts regarding the cleanliness and beautification of the Kashmir Haat.
Secretary Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone, Director Rural Development Tasaduq Jeelani, Director Handicrafts Gazanfar Ali besides officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation were present on the occasion.
The “SARAS Mela”, shall offer pan-India handicraft and handloom products to the people and will be inaugurated on September 10. The exhibition is being hosted by Department of Rural Development.
The Minister directed close coordination among the officers to make the event successful besides giving wide publicity to the Mela so that the common masses visit in large numbers.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe said such Melas provide the much needed marketing facilities to products manufactured by various Self Help Groups.
Abdul Haq said the Self-Help Groups from 22 states of the country are visiting Kashmir to participate in the exhibition. “This will help local artisans to interact with various other Self Help Groups coming from other parts of the country,” he said.
Abdul Haq hoped that the Mela will provide a good platform to the rural artisans of Kashmir to get their indigenously made products marketed and displayed besides exhibition will help the sellers earn good profit.
The officers present on the occasion briefed the Minister about the arrangements being made by the Rural Development Department for the mega festival.
The Minister was informed that the Mela will have on sale variety of goods such as home decor materials, sofa sets, carpets, apparels, accessories, footwear, beauty products, kitchenware and condiments and furnishing products besides other things. (KNS)
