Aam Aadmi Party Calls for Immediate Repeal of Draconian PSA Law in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu, Sep 13 (KNS) : Prominent leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) across Jammu and Kashmir held a press conference on Saturday in Jammu, led by Senior Leader Safeer Choudhary, to address the critical issue of the misuse of the Public Safety Act (PSA) in the region.

In a press conference, Choudhary expressed grave concern over the continued enforcement of the PSA, describing it as a draconian law that has been overwhelmingly rejected by the population of Jammu and Kashmir, now numbering approximately 1.5 crore. He urged the National Conference (NC), led by Omar Abdullah, and the Lieutenant Governor's Administration to reconsider this oppressive legislation and remove it immediately.

Highlighting that the removal of the PSA law is a stated commitment in the NC's manifesto, Choudhary accused the NC government of playing with the people's mandate while simultaneously crying out for their lost powers. He emphasized that the Aam Aadmi Party is resolutely committed to fighting for the repeal of this draconian law from the streets to the assembly and the parliament.

“The PSA law, introduced in 1978, continues to be a tool for injustice in Jammu and Kashmir, and we have seen it misused to detain young people, politicians, and social activists for prolonged periods,” Choudhary stated. He cited the recent misuse of the PSA law in the arrest of elected representative MLA Mehraj Malik, which has resulted in public outrage and sparked a curfew-like situation in Doda, along with widespread protests across the Union Territory.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Choudhary further extended an appeal to all political parties to join the AAP in protesting against the PSA in a united front to bring an end to this oppressive law. He emphasized that the PSA serves as a weapon for the government to stifle the voices of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, undermining the very essence of democracy and weakening the rule of law.

“Now is the time for the NC government to clarify its position and pass a resolution in the cabinet to repeal this draconian law,” he noted.
