Srinagar, Dec 20 (KNS): Anticipating rain and snowfall in the upper reaches, authorities on Friday imposed traffic restrictions on the Tangmarg–Gulmarg road, barring the movement of heavy vehicles and those without anti-skid chains to avert accidents and traffic chaos.
Officials said the restriction will come into effect immediately with the onset of rain or snowfall and will remain in force until weather conditions improve. Only vehicles equipped with anti-skid chains will be allowed to ply on the stretch during adverse weather, they said.
The decision follows a weather advisory warning of precipitation in the area, which often leads to slippery road conditions and reduced visibility on the hill road connecting Tangmarg to the tourist resort of Gulmarg.
Authorities said the move is aimed at ensuring public safety and smooth traffic regulation, particularly as the region witnesses an increase in tourist movement during winter.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Drivers and vehicle owners have been advised to strictly adhere to the advisory and avoid unnecessary travel during inclement weather. Officials warned that violations of the restrictions will invite strict action.
The Tehsildar Tangmarg, along with the Station House Officers (SHOs) of Tangmarg and Gulmarg police stations, have been directed to ensure effective implementation of the order on the ground.
Officials urged commuters to cooperate with the administration and follow instructions issued by traffic and police personnel to prevent any untoward incidents.(KNS)
