On spot quality check through Food on Wheels carried out during drive

BUDGAM, APRIL 07:(KNS)  The Food Safety Wing of Drug and Food Control Organisation (D&FCO), Budgam today carried out intensive market drives in various markets of the district.

 
During the inspection of mutton and chicken shops at Mirgund, Naslabpora, Khansahab and in many areas of Budgam, 5 butchers, 1 Chicken seller and 2 Milk vendors were found selling meat/chicken and Milk in unhygienic condition and in clear violations of Food Safety and Standards Act.
 
The teams soon swung into action and booked 8 offenders for prosecution.
 
The action against erring butchers and chicken and milk sellers was taken during a special drive conducted on the directions of the Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration to check the quality of food items during the holy month of Ramadan. Also inspections and sampling were carried out for bakery shops, ready to eat food shops, Grocery shops and various categories of food items were lifted for analytical purposes.
 
The inspection of butcher shops was conducted by a joint team of Food Safety Officers and Veterinary Assistant Surgeon from Animal and Sheep Husbandry department Budgam.
 
Further the drive will be intensified in all blocks of District Budgam to check the quality of food being sold in the market.
 
All food business operators are hereby directed to refrain from deviations and shall be dealt strictly as per the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, said Yameenul Nabi, Designated Officer District Budgam.
 
Besides Food Safety on Wheels was also put into service for on spot quality check of food items and 20 analysis of food items were carried out during the drive.(KNS)
