Locals protest, Block Road Accusing Geology & Mining Dept of Failing to Stop Illegal Mining

Pattan, Sept 16 (KNS): In a tragic incident, a 7-year-old boy was killed after being crushed by a tractor in Khore Sherabad village of Pattan area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Official sources told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that a speeding tractor hit the minor boy, leaving him critically injured. Locals immediately rushed to the spot and evacuated the child to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The deceased was identified as Ubaan Nisar (7), son of Nasir Ahmed Teli, a resident of Khore Sherabad, Pattan.

Following the incident, locals staged a protest and blocked the Hanjiwera–Magam road, alleging that illegal mining activities were to blame for such accidents.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThey expressed anger against the Geology and Mining Department for failing to curb illegal mining in the area, saying the frequent movement of tractors poses a constant threat to human lives.

Meanwhile, Pattan Police have registered a case in this regard. The driver of the tractor has been arrested, and the vehicle involved in the incident has been seized. Further investigation is underway. (KNS)
