Srinagar, Mar 25 (KNS): Six sarpanches and one panch from Kangan on Sunday 24th March joined Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM) during a membership drive in District Ganderbal.
The Sarpanches and panch who joined JKPM include Manzoor Ahmad Lone (Kangan – A), Aijaz Ahmed Rather, Showkat Ahmed Mir, Hakim Din, Farooq Ahmed Lone (Kunmula Panch), Showkat Ahmed Lone, Imran Ahmed, Manzoor Ahmed Lone (Manigam), Mohammad Akram Kalas, Mohammed Younis Bajad and Mohammad Hussain Pukhtoo.
“We are inspired by Dr. Shah Faesal who did a great sacrifice for the welfare of common people. We have full faith in Dr. Faesal’s vision for the development and progress of J&K State,” the newly associated members said.
The membership drive was kicked off by JKPM leader Shehla Rashid, party incharge for Ganderbal, Raja Parvaiz, women’s wing incharge Rufaida Mansoor and other party members.
JKPM leader Shehla Rashid while welcoming the sarpanches and other members assured them of full support for their concerns. “This is a major boost for the newly formed party as the newly inducted Sarpanchs are young and passionate about restoring the lost the dignity of Kashmiri people,” she said and added “decentralisation and devolution of real power to the Panchayat level representatives is the most urgent democratic reform that is needed.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”
The party delegation visited various areas of district Ganderbal including Gund, Kangan etc where they listened to the grievances of people. The people of Gund complained locals are not allowed to do business during the Amarnath Yatra. “Despite our full support to facilitate the Amarnath Yatra local youth are not allowed to work for the Yatris which is our main source of livelihood,” the local in Gund said. They also complained that they have not received compensation for building toilets despite the government had assured them of financial support worth Rs. 12,000 under the Individual Household Latrine (IHHL) the scheme under the Swachh Bharat mission.
The Party delegation also interacted with local journalists of the district who complained that they are frequently attacked physically while performing their duties and assured them to highlight their genuine issues with the government.
The party delegation visited the family of the party worker Sheikh Mohammed Iqbal in Manigam whose father in law passed away after a brief illness. (KNS)
