Hubballi, Feb 27 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah arrived in Hubballi on Friday to watch the Union Territory's cricket team compete in the Ranji Trophy final, expressing hope that the team would lift the trophy and urging national selectors to consider players from the region.
Speaking to reporters, as per the Kashmir News Service (KNS), CM Omar described the team's journey to the final as a significant achievement, noting that it was the first time J&K had reached this stage.
"It was a big deal for us to see our team in the finals, because it was the first time we have made it to the Ranji Trophy final," the CM said.
The Chief Minister remarked that despite skepticism from some quarters after the team qualified for the final, the players' performances have silenced the critics.
"But after reaching the finals, a lot of people said that they wouldn't be able to go beyond this. However, given the team's performance in the first innings and the bowling they displayed afterward, we are hoping that they will take the trophy back from here," he said.

CM Omar attributed the historical lack of recognition for cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir to insufficient exposure but asserted that the current Ranji Trophy campaign has showcased the region's talent.
"Because of a lack of exposure, you haven't heard much about our cricketers. But given the way they reached the finals and the way they've been playing in them, I think it's about time that some of our youngsters are now invited or asked to play for the country," he stated.
He further emphasized that their performance warrants national selection for some players.
"I think one or two of them definitely deserve to wear the Indian colours," the CM added.
The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister remarked on the long wait for cricketing glory, saying, "67 years is a very long time, but now the team is doing very well." (KNS)
