Srinagar, June 02 (KNS): Opposition National Conference leader and former chief minister Thursday asked the government that why has it thrown Tosamaidan tourist resort open for civilians when the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed apprehensions over defining of the area.
“Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed her apprehensions on demining of Tosamaidan. Are you putting people to risk by allowing them to move in the area? Government should assure the House that the area will be demined,” Omar, former chief minister said in the Lower House today during Question Hour.
“Also it should explain how development will be carried in Tosamaidan,” he added.
Omar, who is legislator from Beerwa assembly segment, had in written question to the tourism minister, which is held by Mehbooba Mufti, about development of Tosamaidan.
Replying on behalf of the chief minister, Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar informed the House that army has informed the government that 65 sq kilometers have been demined and they are safe for civilian activity.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He added that no concrete structure will be permitted to be built in the heath resort.
“The government will rope in special consultants for developing the area to make it a tourist destination. Real stakeholders will be involved for business activities,” Akhtar said.
He added that roads will be developed under a special programme to provide better connectivity to Tosamaidan and other tourist destinations.
Tosamaidan which was used as firing range by army was handed over back to the state last year and the chief minister inaugurated it as tourist destination on Sunday and directed for building infrastructure. (KNS)
