55,000 Smart meters in Kashmir go Pre-paid from June 2023: KPDCL Chief Engineer

Srinagar, June 12 (KNS): Chief engineer, Kashmir Power Development Corporation Ltd (KPDCL), Javed Yousuf Dar has Monday said that 55,000 smart meters installed in the Kashmir over the past year will transition to a pre-paid system starting from June 2023.

Talking to the Kashmir News Service (KNS), he said that the implementation of pre-paid smart meters marks a major milestone in the efforts of the KPDCL to streamline the electricity distribution process in Kashmir.

He said that these smart meters, which were installed over the course of the previous year, were designed to provide real-time consumption data, remote monitoring capabilities, and automated billing systems.

"Now, with the shift to a pre-paid system, consumers will have more control over their electricity usage and budgeting," he added.

"With the new pre-paid system, consumers will be required to recharge their smart meters with credit before consuming electricity. This approach will enable them to track their energy usage in real-time and make informed decisions to reduce consumption during peak hours or adjust their usage patterns to optimize costs," he added.(KNS)
