5 militants killed in three separate gunfights in last 24 hours: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar, July 08 (KNS): The Inspector general of police Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar on Thursday said that at least five militants were killed in the last 24 hours in the Kashmir valley. 

IGP Kashmir, while congratulating the security forces and police told Kashmir News Service that five militants were killed in three separate gunfights in the last 24 hours in South and North Kashmir.

He said that two militants were killed at Puchal area of Pulwama, in an overnight joint operation of police and security forces. 

“Two more militants were killed in another gunfight at Zodar area of Kulgam. The slain militants belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit and their identity is being ascertained,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kashmir zone police in a series of tweets also confirmed the killing of four militants in two separate encounters at Pulwama and Kulgam districts.

He said that earlier, on Wednesday one of the longest surviving militants of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in an encounter at Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. 

“In the past 24 hours, five militants have been killed in three encounters in Kashmir,” he said, while congratulating the police and security for conducting the operations successfully and without any collateral damage. (KNS)
